As usual, I start with a picture of what I want my creation to sort of look like. You can see that I cut a bunch of scrap styrofoam into circles and glued them together in the approximate size for the head. This will eventually be shaved down into the proper shape.
In the picture above, you can see horns coming out the back of his head. I made each of those by lightly "tacking" two one-inch pieces of styrofoam together and cutting out the shape of the horn. Next I split the two pieces apart and bent a heavy gauge wire into the shape of the horn. I place that in the middle of it and glued both pieces back together. The final shaping came next as you can see in this image. I did this for both horns.
I also had to make a pair of ears. for this, I hollowed out the shape of the ears in a styrofoam sheet and lined it with plastic wrap. I filled that with wood filler and when they were dry, I cut and shaped them to look like ears.
The horns and the ears are attached to the head and you can see a pool noodle next to it with a hole cut in the back of the head, the diameter of the pool noodle. The noodle will be used for the body and glued into the hole.
Hypertufa is placed over the head and horns.
It is all painted now. The teeth are also made out of wood filler by just taking a small glob and shaping it like a tooth. Then a small wire is pushed up into the bottom of the tooth and it is left to dry and then paint.
Rebar is run up though the hole in the pool noodle as the first step. It has already been bent in the shape I want the body to be. Next, the pool noodle has a series of fins attached to the back and then the entire piece is covered with cloth and hot glued on. The final product is shown in the top picture.
Unfortunately, Cecil suffered a minor flesh wound when his head fell off during a snow storm with high winds. I hope I can suture it back on, maybe using bolts like in Frankenstein's monster.
