Spinny2

This was a much larger spinner than Spinny and hung in the crab apple tree. Maybe hanging all that stuff in that tree contributed to its demise? This had a circular shape and was sort of a two feet sphere. The template shown is for the flat base plate.

After cutting all the base pieces, I tacked the middle part together and started soldering that.

Once the base plate was completed, I added the curved color parts that will allow the piece to spin. I also added the colored pieces to the bottom of the base plate to give it that circular look. It was such a weird and large shape that it made it very awkward to do all this. When soldering, you mostly like to work on level and flat surfaces, and this was anything but that, so it was quite a challenge. A heavy wire was run up the middle of the piece with a hook on the end to attach a large fishing spinner. It took a fairly strong wind to start this spinning but when it did, it rotated very well. Here are a couple of videos that show it spinning with a slow wind and one with a stronger wind. This was pretty heavy and came crashing to the ground when another one of the crab apple branches died and broke off.
