This was my starting image. I had scanned the internet for interesting Spideys and the black widow Spidey is the one I settled on.
My basic starting point was to attach eight 10-foot rebars to a 2x6 block of wood with the eight holes drilled into it for the legs.
You can see the detail of the legs attached to the body here. I stabilized the legs with scrap pieces of rebar and other metal pieces by wiring them all together.
The plan was that this was supposed to be a black widow Spidey but I tried using black electrical tape and that wouldn't stick to rusty rebars. So I switched to silver alumninum tape. This is wider and it sticks fairly well to the rebar and sticks very well to the back of the other tape. I spiral wrapped the tape around the legs. You can see what the abdomen started out as in the picture below. This was also covered with aluminum tape as well as the rest of the body.
This is a little difficult to see but for Christmas a few years back, I created a couple of globes out of chicken wire. Then I wrapped a strand of solar powered Christmas lights around it and hung it in a tree. Looked pretty cool at night. I repurposed one of these for the Spidey's abdomen by wiring it all to the body and legs for stability. Then I taped it all up with alumninum tape. You can see the result in the picture above.
Here is the final product before repostitioning it to it's final resting place. I painted the eyes (you can't see them in the picture) and the pinchers red for that goulish look.
The picture at the top of the page shows it's final resting place. This is a view from the front to show the red pinchers again and the hour-glass feature on the bottom. This makes it a silver widow Spidey.
